  1. Going Beneath The Surface: All About Dry Skin

Dry skin is one of the many skin conditions that millions of Americans suffer from at some point in their lives. More often than not, the symptoms of dry skin such as scaling, itching, and cracking appear throughout the body but can be prevented if the right measures are taken to correct dry skin issues. In reality, many people are unaware of the causes of dry skin and irritation, whether the causes are natural or not. Causes of dry skin and irritation can vary from factors such as weather conditions to smoking, so it is important to figure out which causes affect you in order to take preventative action against dry skin. If the cause is unknown, or difficult to pinpoint, there are also general techniques anyone can use to help with the hydration of their skin; some of which include drinking certain juices, taking certain vitamins and minerals, and even eating certain types of foods. The most important step to implement into a daily skincare routine is to apply a medically proven product that can increase the amount of moisture in the skin and repair the barrier function of the skin.

No matter what the cause is for dryness or irritation, maintaining hydrated skin is important for leading a healthy lifestyle and having skin appear healthy and hydrated. Having dry skin no longer means having to sacrifice your appearance. For more information on dry skin and dry skin care, reference our infographic.

  2. Your Best Source for Valid Facial Redness Information – Peer Review Journals

Skincare advice abounds, from beauty blogs to medical and pharmaceutical web sites. The problem is filtering through the advice and hype to find valid, useful information. You may have a good grasp of your specific symptoms and needs, but identifying a solution can still be an overwhelming task.

One way to be sure you are getting reliable advice about a new treatment is to check a few medical peer reviewed journals for product evaluation. How do you define a peer reviewed journal? It is a scholarly publication that only includes studies deemed to meet a set of established standards after review by a group of experts in that field. In medical journals, the peer review process is one of the most important tools for maintaining scientific validity and ultimately, preserving public health.

If you are searching for a medically proven treatment for facial redness associated with inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea, acne or eczema, you will find several studies on a new and advanced skin care treatment, PyratineXR®, which has been clinically proven to significantly reduce redness and other symptoms commonly associated with these skin conditions. Take a few minutes to check reviews in one or more of these respected publications. If you’re not inclined to in-depth reading and scientific terms, try searching for a few relevant keywords within the article to find the nuggets of information most relevant to your questions and concerns:

    • Journal of Drugs in Dermatology: :”Long-Term Efficacy and Safety of Topical PRK-124 (0.125%)Lotion (Pyratine-XR®) in the Treatment of Mild to Moderate Rosacea“ by Anne Marie Tremaine, MD, et al, University of California-Irvine;  Volume 9, Issue 6, June 2010.

  3. Reducing Redness in Sensitive Skin

Facial redness has implications that go well beyond cosmetic concerns. You may experience multiple symptoms that interact with one another and complicate treatment. Over time, they can become more pronounced and even affect self-esteem.

Individuals with a tendency to blush are often prone to symptoms like facial redness, sensitive skin, inflammatory acne and spider veins, all of which add up to a diagnosis of rosacea. What links these things together?  A cause has yet to be determined, but scientists believe that rosacea is most likely related to vascular hyperactivity which leads to excessive vasodilation, flushing and general inflammation.

Rosacea is a chronic condition without a cure, meaning treatment must be continued indefinitely to maintain results. Until recently, treatment choices could only address one symptom at a time, rather than the complex group of symptoms. For example, antibiotics and acid-based topical products are prescribed for inflammatory lesions at the same time as topical calming agents are used to reduce redness. Add a moisturizer to overcome dryness and you have the typical medicine cabinet collection of a rosacea sufferer. Unfortunately, one product may cancel out the effectiveness of another, or even aggravate a different problem.  In addition, common treatments bring new side effects to the mix, requiring users to stop treatment periodically, only to find that symptoms return.

Now, a growing majority of dermatologists are recommending a single treatment, PyratineXR®, that has been shown to reduce all facial redness and rosacea symptoms. PyratineXR® is proven through clinical trials to be safe and non-irritating for continuous use. Breaking it down, the results show a significant reduction of lesions, spider veins and overall redness. Cosmetic results are important too, and in fact, subjects using PyratineXR® experienced significant reductions in fine lines, wrinkles, mottled hyperpigmentation (brown spots) and skin roughness. PyratineXR® is the only product to work on all three facial redness factors and more in, all in one doctor-recommended treatment.

  4. BEYOND KINERASE®: If you liked Kinerase®, you’ll love PyratineXR®

The quest for better skincare products is probably as old as time. The eternal challenge is to find a product that addresses each individual’s skin needs, from cosmetic concerns like fine lines, wrinkles and age-related changes, to skin sensitivity and more serious problems like rosacea.

Until 2008, the ultimate breakthrough skincare product was Kinerase®, a topical cream incorporating cytokinins, developed from plant growth factor. Cytokinins retard the aging process in plants, and have been shown to increase the life span of human cells. Kinerase® quickly caught on with celebrities and all those looking to stop the clock and preserve younger, healthier skin.

Then, Pyratine LLC, the developers of Kinerase®, took their product a step further with the introduction of Pyratine-6® in 2008. Clinical studies using this second generation of cytokinin-based skin care technology demonstrated significant improvements in skin roughness, facial redness and skin moisture after just two weeks. Dermatologists found it gentle enough to recommend for use even after dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser treatments.

Now, the latest generation of cytokinin-based topical cream, PyratineXR®, achieves a new level of success using a more powerful, single molecule (0.125% furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine) of the plant-derived growth factor. In clinical trials using FDA protocols, PyratineXR® has been proven:

    • a safe, effective treatment with remarkably rapid results, showing improvement in symptoms of rosacea, lessening redness, acne and spider veins;

    • safe for continuous long-term use, without the irritation caused by acid-based products and topical corticosteroids or antibiotics which upset the flora of our intestinal tract – all products often prescribed for acne, redness and rosacea;

    • effective in reducing visible signs of aging, with demonstrated results like 37% smoother skin in 14 days, a 22% reduction in fine lines and an 86% improvement in roughness by week eight.

PyratineXR® can be used continuously without interruption thanks to its soothing, non-irritating properties and remarkable efficacy for both cosmetic and medical skin needs.

  5. Product Overload and Treatment Choices for Rosacea

Your sensitive skin presents a complicated treatment challenge, with multiple symptoms, ranging from facial redness, to inflammatory acne or lesions, to spider veins. If you try to treat each symptom individually, you can find yourself using a host of different topical products that may conflict with one another. For example, antibiotics are often prescribed to treat acne or lesions, while acid-based topical products are used to dry them, and moisturizers are added to reduce dryness. Each product may contain ten or more ingredients, meaning 30 or more products layered onto your delicate, irritated skin—not a healthy cocktail.

Each type of product brings with it the risk of side effects that periodically require starting and stopping treatment. Antibiotics interfere with healthy intestinal flora, acids aggravate reactive skin, and moisturizers carry a whole set of potential sensitivities. The on and off pattern means you struggle with a frustrating round of somewhat improved symptoms, followed by a period of worsening as you suspend or switch out one or more treatment choice.

Scientists at Pyratine LLC, developers of the cytokinin-based product Kinerase, have worked through extensive clinical studies at the Department of Dermatology at the University of California-Irvine, to demonstrate that PyratineXR® achieves rapid, significant reduction in skin lesions, facial redness, hyperpigmentation, roughness and dry skin in just a few weeks. Spider veins showed dramatic improvement as well with continued application.

PyratineXR® uses the newest generation of cytokinins, listed as 0.125% furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine in the ingredient deck, to produce a single topical product that is fast becoming the preferred choice for dermatologists treating rosacea symptoms.

The old start-and-stop syndrome is overcome, as PyratineXR® maintains a soothing, calming effect for sensitive, inflamed skin. The essential molecule in Pyratine has been shown to have no side effects, in part because it is a pure product with just one key ingredient. Equally exciting, its soothing moisturizing base eliminates the need for multiple products and the usual risk of product overload.

  6. Manage your Redness and Rosacea with PyratineXR®.

Manage your Redness and Rosacea with PyratineXR®.

Use PyratineXR® along with these sensible practices to see faster, long-lasting results without the side effects associated with prescription drugs.

    1.  Stay out of the sun

According to the National Rosacea Society (NRS), sun exposure is the number one trigger for rosacea flare-ups at a reported 81%. Studies have shown that sunlight aggravates rosacea and UV rays can damage the blood vessels underneath the skin.

Rosacea sufferers should limit sun exposure to early morning or late afternoon when the sun isn’t as bright. Avoiding sun exposure entirely is best, however this is not always an option. If you do need to go out, be sure to apply sunscreen and wear a hat.

Also remember that sunshine promotes the production of Vitamin D and, for those who limit their time outside, taking a Vitamin D supplement can help.

    2. Relax

Emotional stress is second on the NRS list of rosacea triggers, identified by 79% of rosacea sufferers. A small change in routine may significantly reduce daily stress.

Try adding a beginning yoga class or do deep breathing exercises daily for 15-30 minutes. By stretching and breathing, your body relaxes and helps your brain unwind. Ancient cultures have been using these simple techniques for thousands of years for a greater sense of peace and balance, along with improved skin results. If your stress is part of a larger underlying issue, consult a professional who can teach you more advanced coping techniques.

     3. Avoid extremes

Extremely hot or cold weather, overly spicy or fatty foods, over-indulgence in alcoholic drinks and too much exercise can worsen rosacea symptoms. A healthy lifestyle is important, but instead of doing long workouts, limit yourself to 10-minute intervals. Overdoing your workout increases the blood flow through capillaries, giving you that “flushed” look.

Try low-impact exercises at a moderate pace, or aquatic exercises like swimming or pool aerobics to keep your skin moist and cool.
Spicy foods produce heat through spices like curry and capsicum, which is found in jalapeno peppers. These ingredients will raise the metabolism and increase blood flow, which may aggravate rosacea symptoms.  Fatty, high calorie foods like sugary desserts, pastas and other simple carbs that turn into sugar are known triggers for rosacea sufferers.

Alcoholic drinks are another way to set off your redness and rosacea, with red wine being one of the biggest offenders.

Protect yourself from weather extremes by dressing in warm clothes when it’s cold and covering up with a hat and sun protection when it’s warm.

     4. Record Your Journey

Keep a diary of situations or events that aggravate your skin. Do symptoms occur:

    • when you’re embarrassed?
    • after a night of heavy drinking?
    • when you don’t get enough rest?

Once you identify these triggers, you can look for ways to change them.

Using PyratineXR® by itself will improve your symptoms overall and help you achieve long-lasting rosacea management.  Making these additional simple commitments to lifestyle changes can truly change your life.

  7. The Secret in Cytokinin Technology

Cytokinin Technology has been mentioned on our website time and time again. Listed as furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine in the ingredient deck, it’s not just one of the components that makes PyratineXR® great, it’s the distinguishing feature.  However, with all this talk about cytokinins many people are still left wondering, “What is it?”

Cytokinins are growth factors found in the DNA of most plants. They aid in cell growth, prevent protein breakdown and slow down the aging process for most living organisms. When in contact with another growth factor called auxin, it helps regulate cell division, grow buds and form roots.

Called by its technical name as furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine,  PyratineXR® is a second generation cytokinin with significant advances over Kinetin.  Kinetin was originally isolated in 1955 by Dr. Carlos Miller in the lab of Dr. Folke K. Skoog at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It was soon used to regenerate plant tissue in farming and botany.

In 1994 a radical study by Dr. Suresh Rattan and Dr. Brian F.C. Clark at the University of Aarhus in Denmark was published. The doctors found that cytokinins like kinetin acted as natural antioxidants which stimulated DNA repair and delayed human age related changes to fibroblasts (the most common connective tissue cells found in humans). Since then, hundreds more studies have been published by researchers touting the benefits of kinetin and advancing cytokinin technology for human application.

We utilize cytokinin technology in PyratineXR® by formulating  0.125% furfuryl tetrahydropyranyladenine in a soothing topical moisturizer. The moisturizer acts as a protective barrier as the cytokinin is directly absorbed in areas of the skin that need it the most. With studies showing 80% improvement in reducing redness, lesions and spider veins associated with rosacea from PyratineXR® usage, it’s no wonder the secret in PyratineXR® is quite special and revolutionary.

Rosacea is a visible life long, chronic skin condition that causes embarrassing facial redness, uncomfortable inflamed lesions and bumps, spider veins and dry, patchy skin.  In more advanced cases, the skin on the nose may thicken and become bulbous, and eye irritation may develop.  Rosacea affects 16 million adults aged 30-60 in the United States. That number represents approximately half of that demographic, making rosacea a significantly common condition for which there is no known cure. There are likely millions more Americans with undiagnosed rosacea, as the sporadic nature of the condition may make sufferers reluctant to seek immediate help.

Rosacea can significantly affect self-confidence and even cause people to avoid social situations or cancel social engagements altogether.  This is why proper treatment and skin care along with the avoidance of rosacea triggers are so critical. Prudent medical practice would suggest the use of a multi-functional product that effectively treats the main symptoms of rosacea (redness, lesions and spider veins) while providing the much need moisturization for healthier looking skin and minimizing the exposure to unnecessary chemicals which can further irritate compromised skin.
